E-mail EnvelopeWelcome!

Welcome to the Western Amateur Radio Association's List Server information page. The list server (or mailing list) is used by club members and invited guests to distribute information to the subscribers. Often the lastest up-to-the-minute event details are sent out to the list server BEFORE being posted on the website, read on the net, or published in the Feedback.

What is a list server?

If you are new to the Internet and have not used a list server before, here are the basic concepts. A list server is an automated computer program that recieves an e-mail and then forwards that e-mail to all members of the list. List servers are very useful for distributing information to groups of people quickly. For example, WARA uses our list server to inform the club members about upcoming events. These events might be things like picnics or Field Day. The list server is also used to discuss and plan events, like Field Day. When you post to the list server (send the server an e-mail message), the server "forwards" the message to all list members. When you receive a message (e-mail) from the list, you can reply to that message. Your reply is then sent to the entire list. In this fashion, it is extremely easy for several people to carry on a conversation and know what eveyone has said.

Who may use the list server?

As you can see from the introduction at the top of this page, only WARA members and invited guests will be allowed access to the list server. We take this policy very seriously. The list server is configured to ignore all requests to display members private e-mail address. This means that if an un-authorized person was to gain access to the list, they cannot retrieve a copy of the member's e-mail addresses. This prevents your e-mail address from being sold to companies who create spam lists. ALL E-MAIL ADDRESSES ARE CONSIDERED PRIVATE! WARA will NOT sell your e-mail address to anyone!

Acceptable use policy

Commerical content posted to the list is not allowed. If a club member wishes to post a listing of private items for sale, that is fine. However, if a club member is the owner of a business then that member cannot post any business related items to the list. This includes Amateur-related businesses. Violation of this rule will result in an e-mail warning on the first offence, then termination of posting privileges on the second.

If you have any additional questions or comments, please contact the list administrator, Dino Darling, K6RIX, by sending an e-mail message to dino@k6rix.com.
